The White Stork Synagogue
The White Stork Synagogue is the larger of two reopened synagogues in Wrocław. Built between 1827 and 1829 by the architect Carl Ferdinand Langhans, it belonged till 1872 to the liberal, later on till the November pogroms in 1938, to the conservative Judaism.
Until the end of World War II, it served as a garage and warehouse for stolen Jewish property. After extensive renovation, the former house of worship was reopened as a center for Jewish culture and education. Together with a small prayer room, the synagogue serves the Jewish community both as an additional temple and as a cultural centre. The cultural and educational projects taking place here are an integral and popular part of cultural life in Lower Silesia.
