A Day full of Music
Community and Culture
The Open Day was not only about music; it’s a celebration of community and culture. Local artisans had set up stalls, offering handmade cakes and exquisite craftworks.
A day full of Special-Events
In addition to the concerts, there were unique opportunities to meet our musicians. Esteemed composer Garth Knox hosted a short instrumental workshop, providing insights into his creative process and offering hands-on experience for participants. Another highlight of the day was a captivating one-hour concert based on Jessica Duchen’s acclaimed book, The Ghost Variations. This event, “The Concert of the Novel,” seamlessly blends narration and music to tell the extraordinary story of Schumann’s violin concerto. Sir András Schiff expressed his admiration: “Her book reads like a thriller… Jessica Duchen manages to find the fine balance between facts and fiction, …a tribute to great music and musicians.” Set in 1933, the novel fol-lows violinist Jelly d’Arányi as she embarks on a quest to find and perform Schumann’s lost concerto.
A Rich Programme
The “Concert of the Novel” featured carefully selected pieces associated with Jelly d’Aranyi, including works by Brahms, Gluck, Elgar, Mendelssohn, Bartók, Ravel, F. S. Kelly, and Schumann. This performance promises to be a poignant and enriching experience, with a spotlight on the intertwining of music and narrative.
